Urinary tract infections can occur when bacteria enters the urinary tract through the urethra causing the bladder to become inflamed.
Some of the symptoms of UTI’s include:
• Burning or stinging sensation when passing urine
• Darker than usual urine, presence of blood, or cloudiness
• Needing to pass urine urgently
• Waking up in the night to pass urine – more often than usual
• Lower tummy pain
UTI’s may go away on their own after a couple of days, however it can be quite an unpleasant experience. In the first instance if the symptoms are mild we may recommend you to take pain relief or over-the-counter cystitis sachets.
In more moderate to severe cases the pharmacist may be able to supply you with a short course of antibiotics, if deemed appropriate.
